Clayton Services is seeking a Code Welder to join a growing industrial boiler service company in the Houston area. The Code Welder will perform welding, repair, installation, and service work on commercial and industrial boilers, pressure vessels, and associated piping systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced welder looking for stable, year-round employment with significant overtime potential and limited overnight travel. The company has a strong backlog of work, an experienced field team, and a reputation for long employee tenure. Candidates with direct boiler code welding experience are highly preferred; however, strong industrial welders with pressure vessel, process piping, or similar experience who are interested in developing their boiler and code welding expertise will also be considered.

Pay Rate: $35.00 - $55.00/hour, depending on experience

Code Welder Responsibilities:
- Perform code-quality welding on firetube and watertube boilers, pressure vessels, and associated piping systems.
- Complete new fabrication, repairs, and alterations in accordance with applicable ASME and National Board requirements.
- Perform welding according to qualified welding procedures and specifications.
- Complete joint preparation, fit-up, welding, and related mechanical work in both field and shop environments.
- Perform boiler repairs, including retubes and other pressure-part repairs and alterations.
- Support installation of new commercial and industrial boiler systems.
- Maintain required welding documentation and code traceability records.
- Follow applicable welding procedures, including preheat and interpass temperature requirements.
- Perform work in confined spaces, elevated environments, mechanical rooms, industrial facilities, and active customer sites.
- Travel to customer locations throughout the greater Houston area and occasionally to projects elsewhere in Texas.
- Maintain company-provided welding equipment, tools, and service vehicle.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and occasional weekend or after-hours work as required.
- Follow all company, customer, hot-work, and jobsite safety procedures.
- Work effectively with mechanics, technicians, supervisors, and other field personnel to complete projects safely and efficiently.
Code Welder Skills and Abilities:
- Strong welding skills using SMAW and GTAW processes.
- Experience with FCAW, SAW, and/or 6G pipe welding is a plus.
- Knowledge of firetube and/or watertube boiler construction and repair is highly preferred.
- Understanding of ASME code welding and National Board repair requirements is highly preferred.
- Ability to read and follow welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Strong understanding of joint preparation, fit-up, welding procedures, and quality requirements.
- Ability to produce high-quality welds on pressure-containing equipment and piping.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work in field-service environments.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a field service team.
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and committed to producing quality work.
- Willingness to work overtime when needed.
- Ability to participate in occasional overnight travel.
- Ability to pass required pre-employment and ongoing drug-testing requirements.
- TWIC card and OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification are preferred.
Code Welder Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 3+ years of welding experience in boiler repair, pressure vessels, industrial piping, heavy industrial fabrication, or a related environment preferred.
- Previous hands-on firetube and/or watertube boiler welding and repair experience is highly preferred.
- Experience performing work under ASME S/U and/or National Board R-stamp programs is highly preferred.
- Experienced industrial or pressure welders without direct boiler experience may be considered based on welding ability and relevant background.
- Previous field-service experience in commercial or industrial facilities is a plus.
