BAE Systems is hiring for an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) / EMT-Paramedic to support at its San Diego Ship Repair site.
In this role as an EMT / EMT-P, you will act as one of the professional medical technicians at the shipyard. You'll be charged to promote worker safety, assist in managing injuries and illnesses, and help return workers to their duties in a respectful and efficient manner within your professional scope of care. Reporting into the Medical Department Lead/Supervisor, you'll champion healthy work conditions in support of efforts to reduce or eliminate health hazards for employees. You'll assist in the administration of the company's Occupational Health and Safety program, and policy and procedures ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations set by Federal OSHA and other agencies including the Department of Labor, Department of Transportation, Coast Guard, State agencies, and various customer requirements.
Please note: As the EMT / EMT-P at the San Diego site, your support could extend into weekend and holiday hours.
Required Skills and Education
  • Typically requires a High School Diploma (or the equivalent) plus a current EMT certification along with 2 years experience in a related role such as an EMT, EMT-P, Nurse, etc.;
  • Experience working in an Emergency Room, Trauma, or related EMS environment;
  • Flexibility required to support varying shifts as needed (1st, 2nd, 3rd, weekends, holidays);
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Biometric Identification System badge;
  • Must have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;
  • Computer skills to effectively work with Microsoft Office and industry-related software applications;
  • Ability to support within a frequently changing, fast-paced environment;
  • Able to work independently, take initiative, make improvements to the function, and drive Safety and Health excellence and performance;
  • Versed in Federal OSHA and local codes;
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and defuse unsettled situations to create a safety and health culture for employees;
  • Must have an overall occupational health background with emphasis in heavy industrial settings.
