Position Overview
Water demands are increasing in the Tampa Bay Area largely due to population growth, and the Tampa Bay Water Purchasing department ensures that the agency staff always has adequate, appropriate and timely products and services required to meeting those demands and provide a clean, reliable supply of drinking water to Tampa Bay Water's six member governments. Finance staff members work with every department in the agency and handles all of the finance and accounting aspects of the agency.
The Finance co-op student will work under the direct supervision of the Finance Manager. The co-op student will have the opportunity to perform a variety of job responsibilities that include paying invoices, reconciling bank statements and investments, send out monthly invoices, make journal entries, assisting in preparing the annual budget document and comprehensive annual financial report. The selected student will have the ability to leverage their specific skills. The student will have the ability to learn many different areas of the finance and accounting field.
It is a temporary, part-time, office position located in Clearwater, Florida. The student will work a maximum of 20 hours per week.
Essential Functions
  • Financial accounting and analysis
  • Accounts payables and receivables
  • Entering Journal Entries
  • Assisting with Fixed Asset reconciliation and recording
  • Looking over construction contracts and making necessary entries
  • Bank statement reconciliation
  • Budget Support

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week for a whole semester
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • Has at least a 3.00 GPA
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  • At least a junior in an accredited College/University

MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Physical Abilities: Tasks involve the ability (to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Abilities: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
Environmental Requirements: Tasks may risk exposure to extremes in temperature and dusts or pollen.
