Job description

IntroductionMcKenney's has been going strong for more than seven decades. Our culture values people and ideas, and we work together to deliver the most innovative solutions to our customers. We help you grow in your career through training and support, and as an equal opportunity employer, we provide comprehensive benefits and give you a firm foundation for the future.

Overview

As a Co-op, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our projects' success.

Success in this role depends on the Co-op’s initiative and teamwork skills. A successful Co-op will learn how to estimate projects and scopes of work, work directly with vendors and subcontractors, and support our operations groups both during the estimating phases and after job turnover. A top achieving Co-op may lead a full multi-million-dollar bid with Sales Engineer guidance.

McKenney's has a long history of success in hiring Co-ops and supporting their evolution into industry leaders. Many of our current senior leaders began their journey in the Co-op program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Estimators and Sales Engineers in all phases of the bid process.

  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to solicit material and equipment quotes.

  • Manage and organize construction documents.

  • With Preconstruction team—review project drawings and specifications to develop estimates and proposals.

  • Use our software tools (FastPIPE, FastDUCT, Bluebeam) to produce labor and materials reports.

  • Support Preconstruction tech initiatives, including RPAs and data capture.

  • Attend jobsite walks to track and measure estimate performance.

  • Foster relationships with profit centers and represent the Preconstruction department.

RequirementsEducation and Experience

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a Co-op program at an accredited engineering school majoring in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree.

  • Candidates must complete at least two full-time, alternating or sequential Co-op rotations before graduation and should avoid a full courseload while working, which may delay graduation.

  • 1st Rotation: Spring 2027

  • 2nd Rotation: Fall 2027

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and detail-focused.

  • Productive in fast-paced environments with strong multitasking skills.

  • Able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage workload efficiently.

  • Effective communicator across diverse teams, including PMs, drafting, field staff, and fabrication shops.

  • Ability to problem solve, think innovatively, and use available time effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.

  • No or limited exposure to physical risk; occasional jobsite visits may require climbing permanent and temporary stairs/ladders, passenger use of hoists, and navigating active construction areas.

  • Light physical effort handling average weight objects up to 50 pounds may be required occasionally.
