Job description

Purpose: The goal of the Ahlstrom Stevens Point Mill's Co-op program is to cultivate the development of potential future engineering and leadership resources for our organization while providing high-quality process support to the mill's operations group(s). Co-op assignments are structured to provide candidates with opportunities to grow and develop in their chosen discipline as well as to educate them on various career paths within the organization. Although there is no guarantee of future employment, our goal is to have our Co-ops fully capable of stepping into a full-time engineering position within our organization by the end of the program.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer Co-op at our Stevens Point, Wisconsin plant for Spring 2027. This position will assist the Maintenance Team in the achievement of safety, quality, production, cost, and product development objectives of a paper machine process line. We offer the opportunity to work in an engaged, team-focused environment while building related skills and experience for your future.
Pay Rate: $27.00 per hour
Requirements:
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, or similar Engineering degree program
  • Living in or willing to relocate to the Stevens Point, Wisconsin area from January - August 2027
  • Strong technical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate product improvement or cost optimization projects
  • Assist with machine shutdowns and start-ups
  • Learn and provide technical support to process engineers and coordinators with Proficy, Centerlining, Optivision and Aspentech software systems
  • Monitor, assess, analyze, and optimize process quality and conditions
  • Monitor, assess, and analyze process variability
  • Reduce environmental impact
  • Provide technical support for key departments
  • Provide problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must follow Ahlstrom's manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position's areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper
  • Assist and/or lead safety, productivity, quality, efficiency, cost control, compliance, and housekeeping projects
  • Support operations/maintenance efforts and drive continuous improvement
