Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides expert clinical guidance, leadership, and consultation to optimize patient care across the practice setting. In the patient sphere, the CNS applies advanced clinical expertise and evidence-based practice to support safe, high-quality care and improved outcomes. In the nursing sphere, the CNS fosters professional development, clinical competency, and practice excellence through role modeling, education, and consultation. In the organizational and system sphere, the CNS drives quality improvement, interprofessional collaboration, and system-level change to enhance care delivery, efficiency, and safety. The CNS serves as a clinical expert, consultant, and change agent to advance practice, improve outcomes, and support continuous improvement within the healthcare system.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

Master's or DNP degree in Nursing from a CNS accredited program is required.

SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:

Expertise in a specialty; excellent verbal and written skills.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:

Licensure to practice nursing in Wisconsin; Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist required within 1 year of employment; Certification within a clinical specialty area preferred (Incumbents in the position prior to June 2011 may substitute the CNS certification requirement with a minimum of 5 years work experience as a CNS). American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days.
