Job Title: Night Shift Machining Supervisor

Job Description

This role oversees night shift operations in a machining department, with a strong focus on horizontal milling (Makino) machines. The supervisor leads a team of approximately 20 machinists, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. The position requires hands-on experience with CNC machining, the ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, and a commitment to maintaining consistent quality standards throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support a team of approximately 20 machinists on the night shift, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Set up, operate, and oversee horizontal milling machines (including Makino equipment) to produce precision components according to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to guide machining operations and verify product requirements.
  • Monitor CNC machining processes, including milling and lathe operations, to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality standards.
  • Perform and oversee in-process and final quality checks on finished products to confirm compliance with customer and engineering specifications.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to team members on CNC programming, tooling, setups, and machine operation, including the use of Mastercam where applicable.
  • Coordinate work assignments, prioritize tasks, and balance workloads across the team to meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Train and mentor machinists in best practices for machining, safety, equipment care, and quality control.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and other departments to address issues, relay shift updates, and support continuous improvement.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices, maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading a team of at least 5 individuals in a CNC machining environment.

  • Hands-on experience operating horizontal milling machines, including Makino equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Practical experience with CNC machining processes, including milling and lathe operations.
  • Ability to perform or oversee CNC programming, with exposure to Mastercam.

  • Experience in both milling and lathe operations, with a solid understanding of machining principles and best practices.
