PURPOSE:

The Benton Club is seeking a hands-on, relationship driven Club Manager to lead daily operations, elevate the member experience, and help shape the next chapter of our historic private club.

This role serves as the operational leader of The Benton Club, responsible for overseeing daily operations, delivering a consistent and high-quality member experience, and ensuring the Club operates efficiently and sustainably.

The position requires a balance of hospitality, leadership, financial awareness, event execution, and team management, while collaborating closely with Club leadership to align operations with the Club's overall direction.

About The Benton Club

Founded in 1887, The Benton Club has long served as a cornerstone of the business and social community in St. Joseph. Known as the social center of the city, the Club offers a historic yet welcoming environment where members gather for dining, events, and connection.

With a strong legacy and a focus on community, The Benton Club continues to evolve as a place where relationships are built and meaningful experiences are shared.

What You Will Do

As the Club Manager at The Benton Club, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing daily operations, enhancing the member experience, and driving event and revenue activity for the Club. This role blends hospitality, operations, and business management, requiring someone who is both relationship-driven and operationally strong.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for members, building relationships and ensuring a high-quality, consistent experience.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff across front-of-house and kitchen operations.
  • Partner closely with the Chef to ensure alignment between service, staffing, and kitchen performance.
  • Lead the planning and execution of Club events, including private and public bookings.
  • Drive event sales and support repeat business through strong service and relationship management.
  • Promote Club offerings and events to both members and the broader community.
  • Oversee day-to-day financial activities, including bill payment, expense tracking, and coordination between POS and QuickBooks.
  • Monitor operational performance, including staffing efficiency and cost management.
  • Provide updates and insights to Club leadership to support informed decision-making.
  • Support a positive team culture focused on service, accountability, and consistency.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a relationship-driven, operationally strong leader who thrives in a hospitality-focused environment and takes pride in creating exceptional member experiences.

The ideal candidate brings a balance of leadership, business awareness, and hands-on execution, with the ability to lead day-to-day operations while contributing to the long-term success and stability of the Club.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A hospitality-minded leader with experience in private clubs, restaurants, events, or similar service-driven environments
  • A strong leader who can build, develop, and retain a positive, accountable team.
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy while maintaining alignment with Club leadership.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal judgment and professionalism, with the ability to build effective relationships with members, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Operationally capable, with an understanding of staffing, service flow, and day-to-day execution.
  • Financially aware, with the ability to manage costs, track performance, and support basic budgeting.
  • Organized and adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented, with a willingness to step in and lead through both challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience working with ownership, committees, or Board-led environments is preferred.

What We Offer

This role offers the opportunity to take on a highly visible leadership position within the Club and play a meaningful role in shaping its future direction.

We offer a base salary in the range of $55,000 - $65,000, based on experience and overall fit for the role, along with the opportunity to earn performance-based incentive compensation.

Incentive opportunity has the potential to reach up to $5,000 in the first year, based on performance and alignment with Club priorities. The final incentive structure will be determined in partnership with the selected candidate.

Incentive opportunities may include:

  • Event bookings and revenue growth
  • Repeat event business
  • Staff retention and team stability
  • Operational efficiencies and cost management
  • Overall contribution to Club performance and member experience

Total compensation would vary based on performance and final structure established by the Club.

In addition, the Club may offer a benefits package that could include:

  • Health Insurance
  • Paid time off and/or flexible scheduling
  • Employee meals or dining privileges

Final compensation and benefits will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and the Club's overall compensation philosophy.
