Discovery Land Company is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to join the Finance and Accounting Department based in the Company's Corporate Office located in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting activities for an assigned development project and related operational areas. This role prepares and reviews journal entries, account reconciliations and roll forwards, financial reports, and supporting schedules; assists with month-end close, audit and tax deliverables, and project cost tracking; and helps maintain effective internal controls and accurate financial records in compliance with company policies and applicable accounting requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Support the Project Development Controller with accounting and financial reporting responsibilities for an assigned development project.
• Perform daily accounting functions and related activities, support month-end close, and help maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements.
• Assess, monitor, adhere to, and recommend enhancements to internal controls and accounting processes to support accurate financial reporting, safeguard assets, and strengthen the control environment for the assigned project and related activities.
• Execute accounting close responsibilities for the assigned project and related entities, including preparing and posting journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and preparing project cost and financial schedules.
• Prepare and maintain audit and tax work papers
• Manage the accounting support for the assigned development project, including monitoring project costs, reviewing pay applications, and tracking accounting activity through project completion.
• Coordinate and participate in the annual external audit
• Partner with project, development, and operational teams to exchange information relevant to the financial status and progress of the assigned project.
• Assists Club Controller as needed.
• Collaborate with the development and operational staff to resolve accounting/finance related issues.
• Invoice processing, signature routing and review of entry into A/P module.
• Maintain and enhance financial systems and related improvement including overhaul of current processes, as needed
• Special projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Finance required, CPA preferred.
• 3+ years of accounting experience required, with project accounting, construction accounting, or real estate development accounting experience preferred.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, preferred.
• Experience with Intacct ERP and related project accounting and reporting systems preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (will communicate regularly and effectively with all employees, supervisors, managers & accounting team).
• Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
• Consistently report to work on time prepared to perform duties of position.
• Meets departmental productivity, organization, and consistency standards.
• Complies with internal controls, laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Must be able to perform work in a safe and high-quality manner.
