Job description

Job Summary
Performs standard and complex electroencephalographic recordings as directed. Facilitates continuity of care by interfacing with physician, nursing, child life, and department staff. Ensures the effective and efficient delivery of quality diagnostic recording and reporting to the physician and the patients' medical record.
Essential Functions
  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
  • Obtains relevant information and skillfully performs daily standard and complex EEG recordings as ordered by physician. Selects predetermined electrode combinations as well as special combinations made by the case under study. Assists medical staff as needed during special procedures.
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, monthly reports and other such reports. Faxes and mails reports to the ordering physicians.
  • Schedules and confirms appointments. Prepares the patient, explains the procedure and ensures patient cooperation during the examination.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Calibrates and adjusts the EEG apparatus in accordance with standard procedures and computerized EEGs.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new procedures by collecting and processing data.
  • Enhances professional affiliations, participation in educational programs, in service meetings, workshops and review of current literature.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory/Management Responsibility
  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Associate degree. Graduate from accredited EEG program
  • Experience - One (1) year of experience as EEG/evoked potential technician with children

In Lieu Of
  • Post high school education 1 year to 18 months with medical terminology, anatomy and electro neurodiagnostic studies. Three years of experience performing EEGs and other Neurodiagnostic studies
  • Team members employed in this job prior to July 1, 2020, are grandfathered under prior educational and experience requirements. In addition, team members must be certification eligible and will have one year to obtain required certification.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
  • Registered in at least 1 modality of the Neurodiagnostic field through ABRET which includes: R. EEG T.; R. EP T.; CNIM; CLTM; CAP; CMEG; NA-CLTM, and R.NCS.T.
  • CPR certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)
  • Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database, data entry)
