Job Summary

North Pittsburgh Oral Surgery is seeking a highly skilled, patient-focused Surgical Assistant

to join our clinical team. This role supports oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures while

ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and operational

efficiency.


The Surgical Assistant prepares surgical environments, assists during procedures, and

supports patients throughout their surgical experience—from preparation through

recovery. This position requires attention to detail, strong teamwork, and the ability to

perform effectively in a fast-paced surgical setting.

What You'll Do

• Prepare surgical operatories, consult rooms, and surgical trays according to surgeon

preferences

• Assist surgeons during oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures

• Prepare and recover surgical patients, including monitoring and recording vital signs

• Review and document patient medical histories and clinical notes

• Obtain informed consent and reinforce post-operative instructions

• Maintain implant tracking documentation and medication logs

• Process biopsy specimens according to established protocols

• Scrub, sterilize, package, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment

• Maintain infection control and sterile technique standards

• Assist with operation of clinical equipment including IV sedation monitoring systems

• Support emergency preparedness and response protocols

• Coordinate with Patient Care Coordinators regarding scheduling and patient flow

• Conduct post-operative follow-up communication with patients when directed

• Assist with inventory management and restocking of clinical supplies

• Travel to other NPOS locations as needed to support clinical operations

• Support additional clinical initiatives as directed by leadership



Requirements:

What We're Looking For (Qualifications)

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Current CPR certification

• Radiation Safety certification

• Ability to obtain Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification (DAANCE) within

one year of employment

• Current Hepatitis B vaccination in compliance with regulatory requirements

• Understanding of anatomy, medical terminology, and dental terminology

• Strong manual dexterity and ability to assist sedated or special needs patients

• Ability to multitask while maintaining clinical accuracy and composure
