Position Overview: The Medical Assistant delivers safe and compassionate care as a vital member of the healthcare team, providing patient-centered care and ensuring patient safety. This role serves patients seeking services from the Clinical Health Services (CHS) Program, working with the clinical team to create and maintain efficient, patient-centered daily clinic operations while providing comprehensive care to all Harris County Public Health patients.

The role operates and adheres to the federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Harris County Public Health (HCPH).This position will service Harris County communities by providing great comprehensive care to patients throughout Harris County. Duties & Responsibilities: Assists with patient appointments by performing Vaccination, Phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing, vital signs, & gathering patient histories. Perform clinic front office duties; scheduling, answering phone, and checking patients in/out as needed

Prepares and labels all patient specimens for transport to appropriate laboratories. Provides in-room support for all clinical staff during the clinic visits as needed, including assisting the provider during procedures. Maintains laboratory and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner in accordance with infection control policies, and complete monthly inventory.

Assists in performing data entry and electronic data processing by using the HCPH electronic medical record system (Epic), Microsoft Excel, and any other related programs/sites. Support the coordination of scheduling patients to receive services from Multidisciplinary team members. Interviews client to collect required information for eligibility determination, using grant and payor guidelines.

Preferences Experience: At least six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) General Information Position Type and Typical Hours of Work: This is a full-time position - 40 hours per week Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Due to the nature of the work, shifts may occasionally be extended beyond the scheduled end time or days may vary, including weekends, as needed. Must be willing to drive throughout Harris County jurisdiction and to Harris County Public Health Clinics. Work Environment: This job operates in both a clinical environment as well as in alternative community-based settings including mobile clinical health services events in different locations throughout Harris County.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and scanners. Physical Demands: This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to twenty (20) pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time. Work Location: Float Clinical Health Services Team Primary Reporting Address: 5815 Antoine Dr, Houston, TX 77091 This position requires travel to work at multiple locations within Harris County jurisdiction and to Harris County Public Health Clinics, as needed to fill coverage gaps Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.
