At Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC), we understand that laboratory services are essential to diagnosing, monitoring, and treating patients. We are seeking a detail-oriented, motivated, and dependable Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join our Laboratory Services team in La Junta.
Located just east of the Rocky Mountains, AVRMC proudly serves Southeastern Colorado with high-quality healthcare close to home. If you are passionate about laboratory science, patient safety, and supporting exceptional care, we'd love to hear from you.
Position Summary
As a Clinical Laboratory Assistant, you will support laboratory operations by processing specimens, performing approved laboratory testing, maintaining laboratory supplies, and entering patient information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate test results, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
This is a Full-Time position within our Laboratory Services Department.
Key ResponsibilitiesSpecimen Processing amp; Laboratory Testing
  • Process specimens in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology under the supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Manager and MT/MLT staff
  • Use proper patient identification and specimen labeling procedures to ensure patient safety and testing accuracy
  • Perform waived and moderate complexity testing as permitted by CLIA regulations and departmental policies
  • Evaluate specimen integrity and recognize issues that may affect testing quality
  • Prioritize and respond appropriately to STAT, URGENT, and ROUTINE testing requests
Quality amp; Regulatory Compliance
  • Follow laboratory procedures and standards in accordance with CLIA, The Joint Commission (TJC), and facility policies
  • Report testing concerns or results outside normal parameters to authorized laboratory personnel
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and commitment to quality laboratory practices
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment
Laboratory Operations amp; Support
  • Enter laboratory data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Communicate test status and results in a timely manner to clinical staff involved in patient care
  • Maintain inventory levels and assist with ordering and stocking laboratory supplies
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize laboratory equipment and work areas according to established procedures
  • Assist laboratory personnel with daily department operations and special projects as assigned
Organization amp; Professionalism
  • Complete assigned duties according to established guidelines, protocols, and timelines
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to departmental and organizational standards
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, and competency assessments
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with physicians, departments, and coworkers
  • Represent AVRMC in a positive and professional manner while supporting the mission and goals of the organization
QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Actively enrolled in a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred
  • Previous laboratory or healthcare experience
  • Knowledge of specimen collection and laboratory procedures
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Coursework in biology, chemistry, or medical laboratory science
