The Drum is evolving from a traditional publishing business into a modern media, events and intelligence platform, connecting the global marketing industry through journalism, experiences, data, community and insights. 

Our content ecosystem spans digital publishing, social platforms, live events, podcasts, video, rankings, awards and emerging intelligence products. As our business continues to scale, we are reimagining how editorial operations function in an AI-enabled media environment. 

We are seeking an Editorial Operations Manager to architect and optimize the systems, workflows and technology that power our editorial organization. 

The Opportunity 

This is a strategic, cross-functional role at the intersection of editorial, product, technology, data and AI-enabled workflow design. 

As Editorial Operations Manager, you will build and continuously improve the operating system that enables The Drum's content teams to work faster, smarter and more efficiently across multiple channels and formats. 

You will lead the design of scalable editorial workflows, oversee AI-assisted content processes, manage editorial infrastructure, and partner closely with editorial leadership, product, engineering, audience, commercial and events teams. 

The ideal candidate combines operational excellence with strong technical curiosity and a passion for workflow innovation. You understand how content organizations function and are excited by the opportunity to use AI, automation and data systems to transform the future of media operations. 

Key Responsibilities 

Editorial Workflow Design & Optimization 

  • Own and continuously improve end-to-end editorial workflows across: 
  • Daily journalism 
  • Event coverage 
  • Video and podcast production 
  • Newsletter publishing 
  • Rankings and awards programs 
  • Social content distribution 
  • Research and intelligence products 
  • Design scalable systems that increase efficiency while maintaining editorial quality and governance. 
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions that improve speed, consistency and collaboration. 
  • Develop repeatable processes that support growth across multiple content channels and business units. 
  • Establish operational standards, documentation and best practices across editorial teams. 

AI Workflow Management & Automation 

  • Design, implement and manage AI-assisted editorial workflows across the organization. 
  • Evaluate and deploy tools that improve productivity, content creation and operational efficiency. 
  • Build and optimize workflows including: 
  • Transcript-to-article generation 
  • AI-assisted research and briefing 
  • Event content atomization 
  • Content summarization and clipping 
  • Newsletter drafting support 
  • Metadata enrichment 
  • Tagging and taxonomy management 
  • Workflow automation between editorial systems 
  • Develop governance frameworks that ensure responsible, transparent and effective use of AI technologies. 
  • Monitor workflow performance and identify opportunities for further automation and optimization. 
  • Act as a subject matter expert on emerging AI applications for media and publishing. 

Content Asset, Transcript & Knowledge Management 

  • Create and manage a centralized editorial knowledge infrastructure that supports content creation, discovery and reuse. 
  • Develop systems for organizing and maintaining: 
  • Interview transcripts 
  • Event recordings 
  • Panel discussions 
  • Podcast assets 
  • Video footage 
  • Awards and judging materials 
  • Research interviews 
  • Commercial and client-related content resources 
  • Establish searchable, structured repositories that enable editorial teams to efficiently locate and repurpose content assets. 
  • Ensure content assets are properly tagged, categorized and maintained according to organizational standards. 
  • Collaborate with technology and product teams to improve discoverability and knowledge-sharing capabilities. 

Editorial Technology & Product Collaboration 

  • Serve as the primary operational partner between editorial, product and engineering teams. 
  • Help define requirements for editorial tools, publishing systems and workflow enhancements. 
  • Participate in testing, implementation and adoption of new technologies and platform improvements. 
  • Drive integration between content management systems, AI tools, analytics platforms and workflow applications. 
  • Advocate for editorial needs within broader technology and product initiatives. 

Data, Governance & Operational Excellence 

  • Establish and maintain editorial data standards, workflows and governance frameworks. 
  • Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and content output. 
  • Develop dashboards, reporting systems and workflow metrics to support decision-making. 
  • Ensure compliance with editorial standards, content governance policies and organizational requirements. 
  • Support documentation, training and adoption of new systems and processes. 

Cross-Platform Content Operations 

  • Ensure seamless movement of content across The Drum's publishing ecosystem: 
  • Website 
  • Social platforms 
  • Live events

  • Build systems that maximize content reuse, audience reach and operational efficiency. 
  • Support content lifecycle management from creation through distribution, optimization and archival.

Requirements

Required 

  • 4-8 years of experience in editorial operations, content operations, media operations, workflow management, product operations or related roles. 
  • Experience designing and improving operational workflows in media, publishing, technology or content-focused organizations. 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. 
  • Experience working cross-functionally with editorial, technology, product and business stakeholders. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience using data to improve processes and decision-making. 
  • Proven ability to drive change and operational transformation. 

Preferred 

  • Experience with AI-assisted content workflows and automation platforms. 
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms, editorial systems and content operations tools. 
  • Experience with knowledge management, taxonomy or metadata systems. 
  • Understanding of APIs, workflow automation tools and content infrastructure. 
  • Experience working in digital publishing, media, events, marketing or information services organizations. 
  • Knowledge of audience development, content analytics and multi-platform publishing environments.
