Business Development Manager – Data Centers
PSG | Lordstown, Ohio (with extensive national travel)
Full‑time | Mid‑Senior Level
Pay: $67,495.67 - $81,285.11 per year
1. Overview
PSG is a fast‑growing construction and infrastructure firm specializing in mission‑critical environments. We are seeking a high‑impact Business Development Manager – Data Centers to drive the pursuit and capture of data center projects across the United States.
You will work closely with senior leadership and the Head of Business Development to identify opportunities, build trusted relationships with data center owners/operators, lead site assessments, and manage competitive bidding for professional services contracts. Success in this position directly contributes to our revenue growth and market share in the rapidly expanding US data center sector (hyperscale, colocation, AI/ML, and enterprise facilities).
2. Duties

  • Proactively identify, research, and qualify high‑value data center project opportunities (new construction, expansions, renovations, fit‑outs) across major US markets.
  • Build and actively manage a robust sales pipeline in our CRM, tracking every opportunity from identification through contract award.
  • Conduct market analysis on power availability, land constraints, AI demand, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape to prioritize pursuit activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key decision‑makers at data center owners, developers, hyperscalers, and enterprise clients.
  • Plan and execute client visits, site inspections, and project assessments to understand requirements and position PSG competitively.
  • Lead or support the full bid/proposal process – from RFP analysis and go/no‑go decisions to final submission – ensuring proposals are compelling, compliant, and differentiated.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional pursuit teams (technical, estimating, project management, legal, finance) to develop winning strategies and high‑quality deliverables.
  • Serve as a key source of market intelligence on US data center trends; provide regular insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and prepare high‑quality BD reports (pipeline, win rates, monthly/quarterly summaries) for senior management.
  • Mentor junior team members or interns on data‑center‑specific research, lead qualification, and professional BD practices.
3. Must‑Haves as the Business Development Manager

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or project pursuit within construction, engineering, project management, or the data center / critical facilities sector.
  • Proven track record of winning competitive bids and securing projects, ideally in data centers or mission‑critical facilities.
  • Strong understanding of the US data center market (hyperscale, colocation, AI/ML facilities, power & site selection factors).
  • Exceptional relationship‑building, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills – comfortable engaging C‑level and senior technical stakeholders.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred).
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (50–70% domestic travel) across the United States.
4. Nice‑to‑Haves as the Business Development Manager

  • Master’s degree (MBA or related).
  • Certifications in data centers, critical facilities, or project management (e.g., PMP, CDCP, or equivalent).
  • Experience working closely with senior executives on strategic pursuits.
  • Mandarin Chinese language skills – a strong advantage for engaging with international stakeholders.
5. Benefits

  • Competitive base salary + performance‑based incentives.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Travel expense reimbursement.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement within a growing national firm.
6. Experience
We require 4–6 years of relevant professional experience as detailed in the “Must‑Haves” section. Candidates with a longer track record in data center or mission‑critical project sales are highly encouraged to apply. Experience in both brownfield and greenfield data center projects is a plus.
7. License/Certification
No specific license is required. However, professional certifications such as PMP, CDCP, or LEED are considered strong assets and will be viewed favourably.
8. Ability to Relocate

  • This role is based at our project office in Lordstown, Ohio.
  • Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Lordstown area (or live within commuting distance) for the duration of the initial project.
  • Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.
9. Work Location

  • Primary work location: Lordstown, Ohio (on‑site at the data center project).
  • Extensive domestic travel (50–70%) to client sites, industry events, and other project locations across the United States is required.
  • Remote work may be considered for certain administrative tasks, but regular on‑site presence is essential.
What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months

  • Established a strong, well‑qualified pipeline of data center opportunities with clear visibility on win probability.
  • Secured at least 2–3 meaningful project wins or preferred bidder positions through competitive bidding.
  • Built trusted relationships with multiple key data center clients and developers.
  • Demonstrated seamless collaboration with senior leadership on high‑stakes pursuits.
