The Clarity Software Developer primarily focuses on coding, designing, and testing software applications within tech environments. In contrast, a Project Manager oversees project planning, execution, and team coordination across various industries. While both roles require strong organizational skills, the developer's role is technical, whereas the project manager's role is managerial. Understanding these differences helps job seekers identify the right career path based on their skills and interests.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Clarity software developer?

To thrive as a Clarity Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (often in C#, .NET, and JavaScript), a solid understanding of database management, and familiarity with healthcare workflows, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Proficiency in Epic Clarity database, SQL Server, and ETL tools, along with certification such as Epic Clarity Data Model certification, is highly valuable. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with clinical and technical teams. These skills and qualifications ensure accurate data extraction, support clinical decision-making, and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations.

What are some common challenges faced by Clarity software developers when integrating with other enterprise systems?

Clarity Software Developers often encounter challenges when integrating Clarity PPM with other enterprise systems such as ERP or HR solutions. These challenges include managing data consistency, handling API limitations, and ensuring secure data transfers across platforms. Developers need to have a strong understanding of both Clarity's schema and integration tools, as well as the external systems' requirements. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to resolve data mapping issues and to maintain seamless workflows across connected systems.

Job description

Innovation at its Best: Join our Forward-Thinking Company

At CableLabs we wake up every day to invent the future. CableLabs is a global, award-winning innovation and R&D lab dedicated to keeping people connected by building and orchestrating emergent technology and igniting co-innovation today for the broadband of tomorrow.

We're looking for an experienced Software Developer to join a team where your work shows up in two meaningful ways: in the business tools that keep operations running smoothly, and in the automated test software that puts cable modem hardware through its paces. This is a role with real variety — you'll bring strong engineering judgment to both tracks, knowing when to move fast and when to get it exactly right. If you take pride in writing clean, reliable code and want to see the direct impact of your work, this role is worth a close look.

Why This Role Is Exciting

This position requires architecting and maintaining internal business applications that support day-to-day operations, as well as independently designing and writing automated test software used to validate cable modem hardware. While distinct in nature, both responsibilities carry real weight. The impact of your work will strengthen the efficiency of our internal operations and the reliability of our hardware test processes — contributing directly to the broader mission of CableLabs to advance the cable and broadband industry. We are looking for a technically sharp, detail-oriented developer who communicates with clarity, takes ownership end-to-end, and genuinely enjoys being part of a team that builds things that matter.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect, develop, and maintain internal business applications that support daily operational needs and scale with the organization
  • Design and maintain automated test frameworks and infrastructure for cable modem hardware, ensuring thorough validation and supporting quality assurance at every stage
  • Partner closely with business users and testing engineers to translate complex requirements into robust, automated solutions
  • Lead and participate in code reviews, setting a high bar for quality, maintainability, and team standards
  • Integrate applications, platforms, and internal and external services through well-designed REST APIs and relational database interactions
  • Drive continuous integration pipeline development and improvements to support reliable, repeatable automated test execution
  • Produce thorough documentation of code, test procedures, and technical processes to support team alignment and cross-functional clarity
  • Other duties as assigned

What Is a Must Have

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a demonstrated ability to own features and systems from design through delivery
  • Expertise with SQL and relational databases, including querying, schema design, and how data structures support application needs
  • Deep proficiency in Python — you write code that is clean, testable, and built to last, and you can articulate why
  • Strong command of Git and collaborative version control practices, including branching strategies, pull requests, and constructive code review
  • Proven experience with pytest and/or comparable testing frameworks
  • Solid experience building and consuming REST APIs, with an understanding of good design principles
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and diagnostic tools
  • Strong communication skills — you can work effectively across engineering disciplines and articulate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What Will Set You Apart

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Working understanding of JavaScript / TypeScript / Node.js
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitLab CI or equivalent
  • Solid grasp of application architecture fundamentals — you think about how systems fit together, not just whether the code runs

At CableLabs You’ll Enjoy Comprehensive Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation: The salary range is $117,910 – $144,170. This position is eligible for bonus incentive compensation up to 20% of base salary.

Health Benefits: Comprehensive healthcare coverage including medical, dental, vision insurance. Access to flexible spending and health savings accounts with employer HSA contribution.

Retirement Benefits: Competitive 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 6% plus an ADDITIONAL 8% contribution to 401(k) which becomes fully vested after only two years of employment.

Work-Life Balance: Flexible work arrangements, Unlimited PTO, 11 paid holidays, 100% paid family and medical leave.

Working conditions and physical requirements:

This job operates in a professional office and lab environment. This role routinely uses standard office and computer lab equipment.
