Specialty Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

Job Purpose
As a Specialty Pharmacy Technician, you'll provide hands-on, end-to-end support to both patients and pharmacists. Your focus will be medication accuracy, adherence, insurance resolution, and high-touch patient service - ensuring every patient receives the right medication, at the right time, with the right support.
National CPhT certification (PTCB/NHA) are preferred
Key Responsibilities (What You'll Do Daily)
Prescription & Medication Support
  • Enter, interpret, and process prescription orders accurately
  • Clarify prescription details with pharmacists and clinicians
  • Label, fill, and prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations
  • Identify medications requiring special handling (refrigerated or hazardous)
Specialty Medication Preparation
  • Assemble supplies for specialty therapies (sharps containers, syringes, alcohol swabs, Band-Aids, etc.)
  • Prepare and package medications for patient or department delivery
  • Maintain medication storage and handling compliance
Patient Engagement & Adherence
  • Answer, triage, and resolve inbound patient inquiries
  • Conduct outbound medication adherence and therapy check-in calls
  • Educate patients on medication awareness and next steps
  • Secure and coordinate refill prescriptions
Insurance, Billing & Financial Support
  • Resolve insurance issues and rejected claims
  • Perform test claim adjudication
  • Assist patients with copay assistance and financial support programs
Operations, Data & Process Improvement
  • Maintain accurate patient and operational data in pharmacy systems
  • Support inventory management, ordering, and receiving
  • Identify trends, resolve issues, and recommend workflow improvements
  • Participate in quality, productivity, and process-improvement initiatives
  • Act as a value-added partner across internal teams
Compliance & Professional Growth
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Stay current through education, professional publications, and networks
  • Support company standards for quality, service, and integrity
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications (Must-Have)
  • Active State Pharmacy Technician Registration (preferred)
  • National Certification (CPhT - PTCB or equivalent) (preferred)
  • 1+ year experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Strong phone presence and patient communication skills
  • Experience with prescription entry, refills, and insurance resolution
  • Comfort handling sensitive and confidential patient information

Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining required licensure and certification.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
  • 5+ years Pharmacy Technician experience
  • Specialty pharmacy, infusion, or complex therapy experience
  • Prior authorization or financial assistance program exposure
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience working in multiple pharmacy database systems
