Title: Clamshell Operator
Reports to: General Superintendent / Superintendent/ Foreman
Position: Full time
Location: Aberdeen, South Dakota
Schedule: The job schedule will be 12 hours a day Monday through Friday, 8 hours on Saturday.
Job Summary:
The Clamshell Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy-duty crawler cranes equipped with clamshell buckets to perform geotechnical operations. This role requires a thorough understanding of deep foundation systems, deviation tolerance, precise excavation technique, and safety protocols.

Responsibilities of this Position:
โ€ข Operate clamshell cranes to perform geotechnical work, including excavation and installation of deep foundation elements.
โ€ข Responsible for operation, setup and daily/weekly maintenance of assigned equipment
โ€ข Responsible for understanding all functions of the assigned crane equipment and directing the proper setup of equipment in the correct configuration to perform lifting functions safely and within the rated capacity of the assigned crane equipment
โ€ข Exhibits leadership when directing supporting mobilization crews including, riggers, signalpersons and truck drivers during the setup, operation, dismantle and hauling of assigned crane equipment
โ€ข Customer focused attitude and problem-solving skills
โ€ข Must make wise and knowledgeable decisions to maintain safe work practices at all times
โ€ข Maintain, Lubricate and Clean assigned equipment regularly
โ€ข Coordinate all work in the field with Superintendent and team
โ€ข Direct and monitor apprentices assigned to the Superintendent or foreman's supervision
โ€ข Follows correct lock-out and tag procedures
โ€ข Complete daily/weekly inspection logs as required by Bauer
โ€ข Fuel equipment upon return at the end of each day
โ€ข Loading and preparing all special rigging and crane accessories or tools required daily
โ€ข Report all accidents or safety concerns to Superintendent or safety department
โ€ข Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
โ€ข High School Diploma or GED.
โ€ข Minimum of 3 years of crane operator experience with clamshell cranes.
โ€ข Valid driver's license
โ€ข Ability to travel as per project requirements
โ€ข NCCCO Mobile Crane Operator Certification for Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes (LBC)
โ€ข Must be fit for duty, able to navigate the jobsite and must comply with all company safety requirements and site-specific safety rules on the jobsite
Education and Experience:
โ€ข High School diploma or equivalent required
โ€ข Ability to work independently and on a team
Physical Requirements:
โ€ข Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times and climb in and out of equipment and working in confined spaces or at heights.
โ€ข Excellent depth perception and reaction time
โ€ข Visual acuity to follow hand signals, maintain logs, ad inspect and maintain machinery
โ€ข Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the construction site in all types of weather
โ€ข Must be able to stand and sit for 10-12 hours
