Job description

Brandt Developments has a Lead Civil Engineer position available at our Regina, Saskatchewan location. This position is responsible for the design and approval of Civil Engineering works and preparing reports, estimates, and contracts.

 Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design and approval of Civil Engineering works (grading, storm water management, underground utilities, and surface improvements) associated with subdivision and corporate projects according to Provincial and Municipal standards.
  • Responsible for the design and detailing of civil elements for all projects, including design plans, technical details, and engineering specifications
  • Lead the Civil Design Team as required through projects
  • Provide internal landscaping advice or coordinate with external landscape architects as sub-consultants
  • Review and investigate preliminary civil layout and engineering options during the development planning process
  • Coordinate sub-consultants for planning, legal survey, geotechnical, and consultant services
  • Preparation of cost estimates, tender contract documents, and engineering reports
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed design calculations, layouts, sketches, and specifications which meet Brandt’s needs, and which comply with sound Engineering practices and standards
  • Investigate field and design problems and prepare reports
  • Perform engineering analysis and develop test procedures, provide quality standards, and adherence
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures. Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering designs, drafting, schematics, and specifications
  • Liaise with clients, authorities, and contractors
  • Project cost monitoring and schedule control as requested
  • Provide feedback and advice regarding the technical and civil aspects of a project
  • Complete site inspections during construction phase, coordinate and follow-up on project issues
  • Perform the contract administration (CA) duties on the projects including attending meetings, travel as required, submittal reviews, supplemental instructions, price requests, site inspection reports, meeting minutes and all other aspects of the projects
  • Aspire to continuous improvement, while mentoring, monitoring, and supporting interdisciplinary project team members
  • Collaborate with other internal design departments (ie. Architecture, Interior Design, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical) to ensure project success
  • Knowledge of National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), Civil Engineering International Codes & standards, and industry standards, practice & regulations/applicable codes having jurisdiction
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD & Civil 3D software is required
  • 5+ years’ experience in a Consulting Office preferred
  • Must have Civil Engineering degree
  • Must be licensed to practice as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan
  • Site surveying knowledge and experience is an asset
  • Candidates will be required to work on multiple projects and collaborate with a team of Architects, Engineers and Technologists
  • Good written & verbal communication skills, attention to detail, enthusiasm and driven to succeed in a positive environment
