Intern – City Utilities Engineering

What You'll Do
Work alongside City Utilities engineers on projects that support Fort Wayne's water and utility infrastructure. You'll divide your time between office assignments and hands-on fieldwork while learning how public engineering projects move from planning to design.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field visits, surveys, equipment inspections and asset-data collection
- Compare engineering plans and specifications with existing field conditions
- Assist engineers with project planning, design research and specification preparation
- Organize project data, prepare preliminary reports and present recommendations
- Complete lift-station inspections, data tracking, filing and required City training
What You Bring – Education & Experience
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- Completion of at least two years of college is preferred
- Strong attention to detail, organization and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities and contribute as part of a team
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and work in both office and outdoor environments
- A valid driver's license is required when operating a City vehicle
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams and technical information
- Comfortable collecting, organizing and communicating technical data
- Proficiency in English; Spanish or Burmese language skills are a plus
