Job description

We are currently seeking Advisory Seniors to join our firm. Advisory Seniors can perform most advisory engagements with little supervision. They direct and review the work of advisory staff and are capable of making decisions on most accounting, financial reporting, and client accounting and advisory matters. When unusual or complex situations arise in the engagement, they present the pertinent information to senior engagement management and follow their guidance.
Successful candidates will enjoy minimal out of town travel and a great work-life balance, including a hybrid work schedule. Maher Duessel offers quality experience working with well known clients, as well as a competitive compensation and benefits package.
Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting, and/or an undergraduate or graduate degree with sufficient coursework to qualify to become licensed as a CPA
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting
  • Government and non-profit experience preferred
  • CPA preferred, other relevant certifications (e.g., CGFM, CFE, CITP) encouraged
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines

Responsibilities:
  • Develop people through effectively delegating tasks and providing guidance to staff
  • Provide performance feedback and training, and complete performance evaluations for staff
  • Foster an efficient, innovative, and team-oriented work environment
  • Use technology to continually learn, enhance service delivery, and improve efficiency
  • Direct daily work on client accounting and advisory engagements; inform supervisors of the engagement status; plan, coordinate, and supervise the various phases of advisory engagements
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with client personnel and assess client satisfaction, and proactively maintain contact with the client throughout the year
  • Adapt the engagement approach to the client's changing environment, needs, and priorities
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of complex accounting and advisory concepts and apply them to client situations
  • Understand the client's financial reporting requirements, prepare management and financial reports, and meet deadlines established by the client and firm leadership
  • Identify operational and process improvements for suggestions to clients
  • Identify risks or issues that should be brought to the attention of the Advisory Supervisor, Advisory Manager, Senior Advisory Manager, Principal, or Partner
  • Begin reviewing staff work, ensuring deliverables are accurate, timely, and aligned with engagement scope and objectives
  • Begin acquiring public speaking and presentation skills
  • Manage overtime effectively to complete assigned tasks through collaboration with the engagement team
  • Actively work towards passing the CPA exam and/or obtaining other relevant professional certifications (e.g., CGFM, CFE, CITP) as appropriate
