Circulation Assistant

The Central Library located in the heart of downtown Tulsa at Fifth and Denver, serves as a beacon for the Tulsa City-County Library by providing the support services for the entire system of 25 buildings.
The Circulation Assistant searches for materials requested by both internal and external customers, prepare paged items for delivery across the building and to other locations, and ensure all materials are shelved accurately and attractively. Youโll help maintain the overall health of the stacks by monitoring condition, removing damaged items for evaluation, and shifting materials between floors as demand requires.
Success in this position requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a solid working knowledge of TCCL services and proceduresโall in support of providing an exceptional experience for our customers.
Location: Central Library - 400 Civic Center Tulsa, OK. 74103
Salary: $12.98/hr.
Status: Part Time - 20 hour/week
Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 4pm - 9 pm
Essential Functions:
- Prints notices for paged material, searches stacks for paged material and checks in paged items.
- Conducts 2nd searches for material initially not found.
- Sorts material by location and accurately places the material in delivery.
- Keeps statistics regarding number of requests, disposition of requests and success rate.
- Sorts returned materials, and properly shelves them within the library, ensures that stacks are in proper order and are aesthetically pleasing.
- Places holds in pick up shelves and pulls expired holds from same.
- Assist customers in person, by phone or electronically in discovering the full range of library services be they physical, electronic, online or off-site.
- Monitors the stacks at Central to help determine when material needs to be circulated in and out of the public floors. Moves material off and onto the public floors based on need.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required
- No previous experience required

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires physical effort including walking and/or standing for long periods of time, carrying, reaching, sorting, climbing, bending, stooping, lifting boxes of books (up to 40 pounds), and pushing fully loaded book carts or trucks.
Work environment involves everyday risk or discomforts which require normal safety precautions, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and or avoidance of trips and falls. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperatures (extreme cold or heat) and air conditions due to exposure to the outdoors.
