CHARGE NURSE – LPN JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

To assist an RN with supervising routine functions of an assigned area to include functioning as a Charge Nurse in providing nursing care to residents under the direction of an RN and as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with standards of nursing practices and regulations; and as may be directed by the (RN) Director of Nursing. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State.
  • Completion of secondary education or otherwise show ability to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
  • Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other employees.
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
  • Must meet all local health regulations, and pass post-employment physical exam if required.
  • Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Related work experience is preferred.

  • Unit Coordinator
  • Supervise under the direction of an RN, other professional and nonprofessional staff in the day-to-day delivery of resident care.
  • Assist in scheduling assignments and developing nursing unit priorities under the direction of an RN.
  • May assist in orienting new staff and participating in recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
  • Communicate non-nursing practice policies and assist and coach as needed.
  • Monitor work assignments’, provide assignments’, provide feedback, and assist an RN in evaluating performance, and redirect and discipline as needed.
  • Participate under the direction of an RN who establishes and directed nursing care in the interviewing and hiring of nursing assistants' applicants.
  • Supervise, evaluate and discipline under the direction of an RN certain non-nursing practice performance of nursing assistant employees, to include the effective recommendation of suspension and termination.
