Job Title: Automation Engineer I

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Family: IT - Process Optimization

Department: IT - Process Optimization

Location: Corporate Office (Fort Wayne, IN)

JOB SUMMARY
Participates in the development and implementation of automation solutions using diverse toolsets including UiPath, Visual Basic, and C#. Assists in creating AI-driven automations and APIs to support business process improvement initiatives.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing automation solutions using UiPath’s Business Automation Platform, Visual Basic, and C#.
  • Help create and maintain APIs with hands-on experience in JSON and modern API development practices.
  • Collaborate with senior team members to implement AI-driven automations, including traditional ML models for document understanding and LLMs for advanced processes.
  • Participate in testing phases, ensuring automations work effectively and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Continuously enhance skills through training and hands-on experience with automation tools and AI technologies.
  • Work closely with team members to support automation development projects and initiatives.
  • Participate in code reviews and follow established development standards and best practices.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess familiarity with at least one programming language such as Visual Basic, C#, or Python.

  • Strong analytical capacity and detail orientation with ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Proven ability to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with senior team members.
  • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
  • One to two years of experience in software development or automation technologies.
  • Basic understanding of automation concepts and development practices.
  • Working knowledge of insurance or financial industry is desired.
  • Experience with or certification in UiPath or similar automation platforms is preferred.
  • Experience with AI or machine learning projects, even in academic setting, is preferred.
