JOB DESCRIPTION:

CHURCH SECRETARY 


The position of the Church Secretary is a very special ministry and important in a church setting. The Church Secretaryis on the front line of this ministry and is one of the very first people the public sees and speaks with when engaging with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Preschool. The position of Church Secretary is a reflection of our church and ministry, and should always be held in high honor as such.


The Church Secretary should be a Christian with general office skills who truly feels "called to Christian service" and who is willing to go "above and beyond" the personal investment for a job in the secular world of work. 


Also of note, confidential and sensitive information which the Church Secretary will become aware of, such as financial records, counseling situations, and other private matters must be held in high regard. It is absolutely essential that the Church Secretary recognize all information of a personal nature must be kept confidential. Divulging any private matters of any person — church member or not — is considered grounds for immediate dismissal. 


Qualifications Of The Church Secretary


  • Experience working in an office setting
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written
  • Strong computer and internet skills 
  • Experience in the use of various office equipment
  • Strong organizational skills

JOB RESPONIBILITIES


  • Organize and maintain the means of communication in the office and congregation, including the management of electronic and physical mail, phone contacts, and church directory
  • Prepare bulletins and other worship materials
  • Provide secretarial support to pastor, staff, church council, elders, etc.
  • Assist in the maintenance of financial records including payroll, invoices, payments, and financial contributions
  • Maintain congregant data, attendance records, church statistics, etc.
  • Maintain sanctuary/worship items and bulletin boards
  • Maintain the  master calendar for the church
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep office equipment
  • Oversee inventory control for office and janitorial supplies
  • Other duties as assigned
