Schedule: Monday-Friday; 9:00 am-5:30 pm
Purpose Statement/Position Summary: We are seeking a Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) for the Outpatient Registration front office within Laboratory Services. The PSR II provides patients and families with a positive experience at CHLA by performing clerical tasks associated with patient registration, check-in/check-out procedures, answering incoming calls, scheduling and verifying appointments and completing financial clearance and authorization duties. This role serves as a key point of contact for patients and families while ensuring accurate and efficient registration and administrative support.
Laboratory Services supports a broad range of critical patient care operations across CHLA, including outpatient registration and phlebotomy services, inpatient phlebotomy, main laboratory specimen receiving, and chemistry laboratory specimen processing, including centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens received throughout the hospital. The department also coordinates send-out testing to reference laboratories such as Quest Diagnostics, Mayo Clinic Laboratories, and ARUP Laboratories. Additional responsibilities include supporting after-hours research sample processing and after-hours neonatal/perinatal registration for outside hospital laboratory specimens, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality laboratory services for patients and clinical teams.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience Required:
  • One year experience in customer service, preferably in a medical front office setting.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, filing and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
Preferred:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • 1+ years of experience working for a large laboratory or academic institution.
  • 2+ years of experience in administrative patient setting.
  • 3+ years in medical office setting.
  • Experience in medical terminology sufficient to understand and discuss technical aspects of pathology and laboratory medicine.
Education/Licensure/Certifications: High school diploma or GED required.
Pay Scale Information
$44,782.40-$59,696.00

Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates who exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
