CHL Systems is hiring a Fabrication Technician I to support the production of metal components used in custom automation, conveyor, packaging, and material handling equipment.
This is a hands-on opportunity for someone with technical training, manufacturing experience, fabrication exposure, or a strong mechanical background who wants to continue developing their skills. You will perform basic cutting, material preparation, finishing, measurement, and equipment operation while learning more advanced fabrication processes from experienced team members.
Fabrication Technician I is the first level in CHL Systems’ Fabrication Technician career path. Employees at this level build the technical foundation needed to advance through demonstrated safety, accuracy, equipment proficiency, and increasing independence.

What You’ll Do
Perform basic cutting, shearing, sawing, and material-processing operations with instruction or oversight
  • Assist with press brake setup and perform basic forming operations under supervision
  • Operate or assist with saws, shears, rollers, ironworkers, and laser cutting systems after receiving appropriate training
  • Read and follow work orders, shop drawings, basic fabrication prints, and written instructions
  • Measure and inspect parts using tape measures, rulers, gauges, squares, and other basic measuring tools
  • Deburr, grind, clean, and finish parts to remove sharp edges, burrs, and surface imperfections
  • Prepare materials and fabricated parts for forming, welding, machining, assembly, or other production operations
  • Check completed work for accuracy, quality, identification, and completeness
  • Load, stage, move, label, organize, and track materials and fabricated parts
  • Operate forklifts or other material-handling equipment when trained, certified, and authorized
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
  • Follow all safety, PPE, environmental, housekeeping, quality, and material-tracking procedures
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, leads, and production team members
  • Support general shop workflow and perform other fabrication duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical school, vocational training, apprenticeship experience, or relevant coursework is a plus
  • Prior experience in fabrication, manufacturing, metalworking, technical education, construction, automotive work, or another hands-on environment preferred
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment
  • Ability to accurately read a fractional tape measure
  • Ability to convert common fractions to decimals
  • Basic understanding of measurements, angles, and simple geometry
  • Ability to read and follow simple shop drawings, work orders, and written instructions
  • Ability to use basic measuring tools and recognize obvious defects or incorrect dimensions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and safe work habits
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and fabrication techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and handle materials, tools, or equipment
  • Frequently required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally required to move up to 100 pounds with assistance or appropriate lifting equipment
  • Work is performed primarily in an active manufacturing and fabrication environment
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, sparks, metal debris, fabrication machinery, and material-handling equipment
  • Requires sufficient close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Regular use of hand tools, measuring devices, fabrication equipment, and material-handling equipment
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
