Job Description 

Shady Side Academy’s Middle School is seeking a part-time Chinese Teacher for the 2026-27 academic year. The Chinese Teacher will instruct students in grades 6-7 in a language immersion classroom. A successful Middle School Chinese Teacher engages students in meaningful learning experiences that meet their needs and gives them the confidence to take risks with a new language.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Keeps students at the center of their decision-making and practice
  • Collaborates with colleagues and supports endeavors that benefit the larger community
  • Cultivates positive partnerships with parents through consistent and transparent communication about their child’s progress
  • Participates in other assigned duties as determined by the Head of the Middle School

Qualifications

Fluency in oral and written Chinese and experience teaching Chinese is required. A bachelor’s degree in Chinese, or another modern language of a native speaker, is required, and a master’s degree in Chinese or a related field is strongly preferred.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Prior school experience as a Chinese teacher; middle school experience preferred
  • A demonstrated commitment to a high level of language proficiency
  • Ability to work as a team with the World Language faculty
  • An interest in 
  • Openness to being an integral part of a caring community of learners
