We are entering an exciting phase of growthโ€”expanding our operational footprint into Indianapolis while strengthening our leadership position in Bloomington.

Overview

Mother Plumber is seeking a hands-on, growth-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead day-to-day operations and scale the business across multiple markets. The COO will take ownership of operational performance in Bloomington while spearheading the launch and growth of our Indianapolis presence.

This role combines strategic leadership with operational execution and is ideal for someone who thrives in entrepreneurial environments and is eager to build, optimize, and scale a service business.

Duties
  • Operational Leadership
    • Oversee and optimize daily operations of the Bloomington business, ensuring service quality, efficiency, and profitability
    • Establish standardized processes, systems, and KPIs across field operations, dispatch, customer service, and back office functions
    • Drive accountability and performance across teams, including technicians, office staff, and field leaders
  • Market Expansion (Indianapolis)
    • Lead the establishment of Mother Plumberโ€™s Indianapolis operations from the ground up
    • Develop and execute a market entry strategy, including hiring, fleet deployment, vendor relationships, and local partnerships
    • Ensure a seamless extension of brand, service standards, and culture into the new market
  • People & Culture
    • Recruit, train, and develop high-performing teams across both markets
    • Foster a positive, performance-driven culture aligned with the founderโ€™s vision and values
    • Build leadership bench strength to support ongoing growth
  • Financial & Performance Management
    • Own operational P&L performance, including revenue growth, margin optimization, and cost control
    • Track and report key metrics such as job profitability, technician productivity, customer acquisition, and retention
    • Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning
  • Systems & Infrastructure
    • Implement and optimize field service management systems, scheduling tools, and operational dashboards
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and scalability
Requirements
  • Master Plumber License (required)
  • 7โ€“15+ years of operations leadership experience, ideally in home services (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) or a similar field service business
  • Proven experience scaling operations across multiple locations or launching new markets
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with high ownership, urgency, and adaptability
  • Strong financial acumen with a track record of improving operational performance and profitability
  • Handsโ€‘on leader comfortable working in both strategic and tactical capacities
  • Experience building teams, systems, and processes in a growing organization
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and align teams

Pay: $120,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
