ABOUT GUNDERSONS CFO & BOOKKEEPING
Gundersons CFO & Bookkeeping is a Texas-based accounting and bookkeeping firm serving small businesses and individual clients. We operate with documented processes, high standards, and an uncompromising commitment to accuracy. We are building a team that takes ownership of their work and thrives in a structured, professional environment where quality is the standard, not the goal.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a detail-driven bookkeeper who does clean, complete work. The kind of person who finishes a task fully before moving to the next one. This is a full-time, in-person role at our Hempstead, TX office. You will manage bookkeeping for a portfolio of small business clients, support walk-in clients at the front office, work within established systems, and report into a structured review process. Accuracy and consistency are not aspirational here; they are the baseline.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple small business clients
Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
Maintain accurate general ledger entries and chart of accounts
Process accounts payable and receivable
Prepare monthly financial reports: P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
Support payroll coordination and reconciliation
Greet and assist walk-in clients, answering routine inquiries and directing complex questions to the appropriate team member
Communicate with clients on routine bookkeeping matters
Flag discrepancies and escalate issues through proper channels
Maintain organized, complete client files within firm systems
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
2+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably with small business clients
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO ProAdvisor certification a plus)
Solid working knowledge of GAAP bookkeeping principles
Experience with bank reconciliations, AP/AR, and monthly financial reporting
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
Experience managing multiple client files simultaneously
Familiarity with payroll processing (ADP, Gusto, or similar)
WHO YOU ARE
We use the Predictive Index (PI) behavioral assessment as part of our hiring process. Our ideal bookkeeper is methodical and precise. You catch errors before they compound, follow documented processes without cutting corners, and take pride in delivering clean books every single month. You work well independently, stay focused on the task at hand, and know when to ask for guidance. A professional, structured workplace where your accuracy is recognized is exactly where you do your best work. You do not need noise or urgency to stay motivated. You need clear expectations and room to do the job right.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification
Experience in a multi-client bookkeeping or accounting firm environment
Familiarity with year-end workpapers and tax return support documentation
WHAT WE OFFER
Full-time, in-person position at our Hempstead, TX office
Monday through Thursday schedule
Professional work environment with clear systems and accountability structures
Stable, supportive team culture where your work is valued
Opportunity to grow with a firm committed to operational excellence
HOW TO APPLY
Submit your resume along with a brief cover note (3 to 5 sentences) describing the most complex bookkeeping issue you have identified and resolved. Tell us what the issue was, how you caught it, and how you fixed it. Applications submitted without a cover note will not be reviewed.
