Advanced Technologies is currently seeking a process engineer to be lead a team assisting the scale-up of a nuclear fuel manufacturing process within the research and development organization in Lynchburg, VA. The engineer will be responsible for designing the facility to upscaling an existing fuel manufacturing process to full production scales. This includes identifying system solutions to achieve facility design requirements, evaluating the manufacturing readiness level of alternative systems to improve the economics of the manufacturing, and support the operations group to facilitate non-fuel testing of new technologies or manufacturing approaches.

Job Description / Duties:
  • Lead a team to develop and implement a production scale fuel processing facility in support of BWXT manufacturing initiatives.
  • Identify, establish, and test new manufacturing/chemical processing approaches to upscale current pilot production to full production.
  • Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFD), process instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and system layout plans.
  • Perform process equipment sizing, selection, specifications, and support operations organization with installation and start-up commissioning.

Job Qualifications / Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Materials Science and Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering etc.) or Physics is required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience is required. An advanced degree may substitute for years of experience.
  • Must possess strong skill set in chemical processing of inorganic materials.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multi-task are required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

Additional Desired Skillsets:
  • Experience in the semi-conductor, aerospace, ceramics, composites, or nuclear industries.
  • Experience in the engineer and testing of pilot-scale or limited-rate production manufacturing facilities.
  • Understanding of some sub-set of chemical and ceramic processing technologies including dissolution, precipitation, calcination, chemical vapor processing, and sintering technologies.
  • Application knowledge/experience for equipment selection, specification, and installation.
  • Application knowledge on facility design to achieve the requirements in throughput and cost.

Pay: $ 92,000.000 - $ 142,000.00
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $92,000.000 and $142,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
