Job description

As a Chemical Lab Technician - 3rd Period, you will support safe and reliable power generation by performing chemical analysis, environmental sampling, equipment monitoring, and laboratory testing. This position is based in an industrial power plant environment and requires work both inside the laboratory and throughout the plant, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions. This is a day shift position; however, overtime and extended shifts may be required to support plant operations.
Important: Candidates must have completed the required college chemistry and math coursework listed below. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered.
What You'll Do
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze coal, water, environmental, and plant chemical samples to support plant operations, environmental compliance, and reliable power generation.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, water and gas monitoring systems, chemical feed systems, and demineralizing equipment.
  • Work safely in an industrial environment using laboratory equipment, hand tools, handheld technology, and overhead cranes while following established procedures and maintaining accurate records.

What You'll Need
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have successfully completed the following college coursework with a C average or higher:
    • Twelve semester hours of college-level chemistry.
    • Four semester hours of college algebra or higher math.
    • Four semester hours of additional higher-level math or computer science.
  • Ability to work an 8-hour day shift, overtime as needed, and occasionally up to 16 consecutive hours.
