We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Product Owner with a software engineering background and deep experience in payment gateways and payment processing systems to join our team onsite in Irvine, CA. This role requires a strong technical foundation combined with product ownership expertise. The ideal candidate has hands-on engineering experience and a deep understanding of payment architectures, APIs, and system integrations. You will work closely with engineering teams to design, build, and optimize secure, scalable payment solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Own and manage the product backlog for payment gateway solutions and related integrations
  • Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Partner closely with engineering teams on system design, architecture discussions, and technical trade-off decisions
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, and roadmap execution in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Drive integration efforts with payment processors, gateways, ERP systems, and third-party platforms
  • Ensure solutions meet PCI-DSS and other regulatory/security standards
  • Define and optimize payment flows including authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, tokenization, and recurring billing
  • Review API designs, technical documentation, and integration patterns
  • Monitor payment performance metrics (authorization rates, declines, latency, chargebacks) and prioritize enhancements
  • Identify technical risks early and proactively drive resolution
  • Support product releases, customer implementations, and post-launch optimization
  • Own processor certification as a delivery discipline, driving continuous reduction in cycle time through rigorous milestone tracking, bottleneck identification, and relentless pursuit of opportunities to parallelize work and eliminate rework.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience (backend or full-stack preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, or similar role
  • 3+ years of experience working with payment gateways or payment processors
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Payment authorization and settlement workflows
    • RESTful APIs and system integrations
    • Tokenization, encryption, and secure data handling
    • PCI-DSS compliance
    • Card-present and card-not-present transactions
  • Ability to read code, understand system architecture, and effectively collaborate with engineers
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills as well as strong stakeholder management with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Familiarity with card-present payment flows and the EMV ecosystem, including chip, contactless, and the certification requirements that govern terminal integrations
  • Experience with ACH, alternative payment methods, and subscription billing
  • Knowledge of fraud tools and chargeback management
  • Exposure to microservices architecture and cloud-based systems
