The Director of Sales & Marketing is the strategic business leader for all sales, marketing, and revenue channels at this expansive mixed-use resort. This role is critical in shaping and executing strategies to enhance the resort's multi-channel market presence, drive revenue, and build a high-performing team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This description is a summary of primary responsibilities and qualifications. The job description is not exhaustive and can be adjusted based on the needs of the company. The hotel operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so operational demands require variations in shift days, starting times, and hours worked in a week.

STRATEGIC SALES & REVENUE LEADERSHIP
  • Develop and execute annual sales and marketing plans to maximize occupancy, RevPAR, ADR, and total resort revenue.
  • Set revenue targets with ownership, the General Manager, and corporate stakeholders; report progress against KPIs and forecasts.
  • Partner with revenue management on pricing, distribution, and inventory strategy.
  • Grow market share across leisure, corporate, group, and social segments through targeted sales initiatives.
  • Use competitive data, market trends, and demand patterns to guide strategy and adjust tactics.
GROUP SALES & EVENT BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
  • Drive group sales for meetings, conferences, social events, weddings, incentive travel, and destination-management business.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of group and catering leads through prospecting, relationship management, and repeat business growth.
  • Represent the resort in site visits, client events, RFP responses, and contract negotiations.
  • Partner with Food & Beverage and Events teams to create packages that showcase the full resort experience.
  • Lead digital marketing across website content, SEO/SEM, paid media, email, social media, and reputation management.
  • Build awareness through PR, media outreach, influencer partnerships, and community engagement.
  • Oversee collateral, brand assets, photography, video, and advertising to ensure consistency and brand compliance.
  • Plan promotional events, grand-opening programming, and resort activations that drive visibility and bookings.
  • Use analytics, campaign results, and guest sentiment to optimize spending and improve performance.
PARTNER & ACCOUNT RELATIONS
  • Build partnerships with travel agents, OTAs, wholesalers, corporate accounts, meeting planners, and destination marketing organizations.
  • Represent the resort at trade shows, conferences, sales missions, and hospitality networking events.
  • Serve as an external ambassador within the Alabama Gulf Coast tourism community.
PRE-OPENING SALES & MARKETING EXECUTION
  • Execute a pre-opening sales and marketing strategy to build awareness, drive early bookings, generate leads, and create community excitement.
  • Establish launch processes for CRM, sales workflows, booking systems, campaign planning, and reporting.
  • Coordinate with brand leadership, ownership, PR agencies, and marketing partners on a cohesive launch campaign.
TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and develop a high-performing sales and marketing team.
  • Set expectations, coach performance, and conduct reviews that support growth.
  • Retain talent, build bench strength, and prepare team members for expanded roles.
  • Manage the department budget, track ROI, and report performance to leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive hospitality sales and marketing experience, including 3+ years in a director-level or equivalent senior role.
  • Proven record of driving revenue growth, occupancy gains, and market share improvement at a full-service resort, hotel, or similar hospitality operation.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing platforms, CRM, PMS, and revenue management tools and methods.
  • Experience managing group sales pipelines, RFPs, and complex group and catering contracts.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; comfortable presenting to ownership and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage a complex multi-channel marketing calendar and departmental budget effectively.
  • Familiarity with the Alabama Gulf Coast or broader Southeast leisure and hospitality market strongly preferred.
  • Pre-opening hotel or resort sales and marketing strategy experience is a major plus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with lifestyle or branded resort properties, with strong brand-driven hospitality marketing expertise.
  • Experience planning and supporting mixed-use resort properties, including coordinated sales and marketing strategies across lodging, residential, dining, amenities, and event offerings.
  • Active relationships with meeting planners, travel agencies, corporate travel managers, and DMOs regionally and nationally.
  • Proficiency with sales and marketing platforms such as Delphi FDC, Salesforce, HubSpot, Cvent, TravelClick, or similar tools.
  • Experience with multi-unit or mixed-use resorts offering residential/condominium and hotel accommodations.
  • Active involvement in hospitality associations such as HSMAI, MPI, PCMA, or similar organizations.
