The New Mexico National Guard Job ChalleNGe Academy (NMNGJCA) in Albuquerque, NM, is a career technical education program that serves as an optional follow-on program for graduates of the New Mexico National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy in Roswell, NM. The goal of the NMNGJCA program is to prepare students aged 17.5 - 20 for living wage jobs while providing a no-cost place for them to live and study in a para-military environment while simultaneously developing life skills. Upon completion of a three-to-six-month career training curriculum, the NMNGJCA advocates for graduates and works to connect them with employment opportunities throughout the state.

Why does the job exist?
Cadre and Residential Advisors (RA) are responsible for the charge and leadership of youth and young adults by providing education, leadership, character development, and life coping skills. Cadre/RA assure that the staff standards in the National Guard Bureau Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are met. Cadre/RA assist youth and young adults in meeting their individual goals as well as assisting in the development of a pathway to success. Cadre/RA work to redirect the behaviors of at-risk teens participating in a voluntary residential military style academy using behavioral modification techniques.
How does it get done?
These positions will administer and teach students disciplinary processes and provide direct instruction in the New Mexico National Guard Job ChalleNGe Academy's mission and conduct and participate in daily physical training related exercises. The Cadre/Residential Advisor applies military practices and principles of guiding and training students while exercising responsibility for the daily activities of students on an assigned team. Position will provide military structure, discipline and training of the students on a 24/7 basis. The incumbents will coordinate student daily and weekly schedules to ensure that academic, physical training and personal development are completed and program goals are met.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has experience in the following:
* Mentoring individuals
* Training and providing guidance to individuals
* Providing motivational or team building instruction
* Working with youth ages 16-19
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience working with at-risk youth, counseling assistant, teaching assistant, military experience, or Correctional facility. Graduation from Job ChalleNGe Academy may substitute for the one (1) year of experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to background check and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License with no limitations or restrictions. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is conditional pending results of pre-employment drug test.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fast-paced environment on a large campus with multiple building, with youth aged 16-18 in a 24/7 environment that requires extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and bending, and exposure to outdoors. Daily physical fitness with cadets. Shift work (including graveyard) and overtime may be required.
