What is a cgh?

CGH typically stands for 'Comparative Genomic Hybridization,' which is a laboratory technique used in genetics and genomics to detect chromosomal abnormalities and variations. Professionals working in CGH, such as laboratory technologists or genomic scientists, are responsible for preparing samples, conducting hybridization experiments, analyzing genomic data, and interpreting results to help diagnose genetic disorders or guide research. Their work is crucial for advancements in medical diagnostics, cancer research, and personalized medicine.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cgh?

To thrive as a CGH nurse, you need a solid background in general nursing care, patient assessment, and clinical decision-making, typically supported by a nursing degree and relevant licensure. Familiarity with hospital information systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and basic medical equipment is essential. Strong communication, teamwork, and stress management skills set outstanding CGH nurses apart. These abilities ensure high-quality patient care and smooth operations within a busy hospital environment.

They regularly collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including genetic counselors, laboratory scientists, and other medical specialists, to ensure comprehensive patient care. Balancing clinical duties with ongoing research and education is also a common aspect of the role, requiring strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
