Job description

Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Civil or Environmental Engineer with 2+ years of water resource experience for our Fort Wayne Office. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who is interested in playing a key role in planning, designing, and implementing water resource projects that address potable water, wastewater, and stormwater.
You will be assigned to a project team tasked with helping communities and industries solve their most challenging environmental infrastructure problems. Our team-based culture effectively fosters learning and growth.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate would have some experience with projects including pump stations, collection systems, distribution systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants and be working toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the future. You would receive mentoring from experienced engineers on non-routine, complex projects/assignments and may coordinate or review the work of less experienced engineering interns.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, project engineers, CAD designers, and environmental scientists.
  • Prepare engineering reports, construction documents, cost estimates, and technical memos.
  • Perform simple design calculations under the supervision of a project engineer or project manager.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations related to water resources and stormwater.
  • Contact government officials for permits and prepare permit applications.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and inspections as needed.
  • Coordinate with contractors.
  • Communicate technical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications/Skills
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in water resources engineering
  • B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering (a graduate degree is a plus)
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam certification with progress toward PE licensure
  • Experience with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands and solve problems for our clients
  • Positive attitude and an impressive work ethic
  • A clear sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and ability to contribute to a positive work environment
