Job description

Jefferson Parish Civil Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Purpose of Announcement EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR. Kind of Work Under general supervision of the Recreation Special Program Supervisor, the purpose of this position is to provide assistance in the general operation of a ceramic program for senior citizens.

Position is responsible for ensuring materials are ordered and available for class as well as assisting the instructor prior to, during, and after class. Employee performs duties related to ceramic creation to include setting molds for pouring, pouring liquid, slipping off molds, cleaning and trimming molds, timing molds for proper foundation and working with kilns. Operates related tools to include a drill, cleaning tools, stilts, and chisel.

This position will be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly working environment, pouring area, and studio area. Employee may be required to drive from park to park to perform job duties. Will substitute for the instructor when the instructor is not present.

Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference. Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Possession of a high school diploma (or equivalent). OR Experience involving ceramic creation as an instructor or a related position.

NOTE: Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application. Kind of Examination (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL) NON-COMPETITIVE - All persons meeting the stated requirements on this announcement will be issued an Employment Eligibility Letter for Ceramics Assistant and have their name forwarded to the appointing authority when vacancies arise
