Job description

Description
The Access Control Officer (ACO) is responsible for executing day-to-day access control operations at a cleared data center construction site. This role supports the secure movement of personnel, vehicles, and materials in strict accordance with approved security procedures, post orders, and contract requirements. Access Control Officers operate under the direction of the Access Control Manager and Site Security leadership to maintain a controlled, compliant, and auditable security posture throughout construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform access control duties at designated entry and exit points in accordance with approved security policies, procedures, and post orders.
  • Verify identification, credentials, clearances, and access authorizations for personnel, vehicles, and deliveries.
  • Process visitors, contractors, and vendors in compliance with site access procedures.
  • Conduct inspections of vehicles, bags, and materials as required to prevent unauthorized items from entering secure areas.
  • Operate access control systems, badging systems, and related security equipment.
  • Maintain accurate access control logs, badge records, reports, and other required documentation.
  • Immediately report security incidents, discrepancies, or violations to the Access Control Manager or Site Security leadership.
  • Support investigations, incident response, and corrective actions related to access control events.
  • Comply with all classified handling requirements and safeguard sensitive and classified information at all times.
  • Participate in required training, briefings, and onboarding activities related to site access control procedures and systems.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must provide a valid U.S. Passport Book or Passport Card.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional relevant security certifications or training is a plus.
  • Proven experience as an Access Control Officer or in a related security role.
  • Must be able to stand and conduct screening activities with handheld detectors/devices for extended periods of time (up to 12 hours) - Please note that employees are given breaks
  • Must be able to conduct routine foot patrols (inside and out) in all weather conditions. In many instances by themselves. Patrols at many/most sites can take up to 2-hours to conduct/complete throughout an 8 to 12-hour shifts.
  • In-depth knowledge of access control systems, physical security protocols, and security technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise security procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with personnel, visitors, and clients professionally.
  • Must be able to handle stress associated with client/vendor interfaces and disputes regarding screening/wanding standards and able to enforce standard operating procedures to stop an entrant into the facilities from bringing prohibited items and materials into the workplace
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions under pressure, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to hold over their scheduled shift to maintain critical, minimum staffing levels if required.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform periodic patrols and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong ethics, integrity, and commitment to maintaining a secure and confidential environment.
  • Ability to work in a high-level stress environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk 3-5 miles during shift
  • Ability to stand for 60 minutes at a time
  • Occasional climbing of ladders.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs and/or ramps.
  • Prolonged standing.
  • Occasional lifting 50lbs. / 22.5kg.
  • Occasional push or pull 50-75lbs. / 22.5-34kg. with assistive device.
