Overview

Alamo Cement Company, located in San Antonio, Texas has a very long and rich history.  At the time when the cowboys roamed the West, a small Texas cement company laid a solid foundation for its existence.  Started in January 1880, the original cement plant , known as San Antonio Portland Cement Company, was located at what is now called Brackenridge Park.  In 1908, the cement plant relocated to North Central San Antonio. 

In 1979, the San Antonio Portland Cement Company was renamed Alamo Cement Company, and today we are part of the Buzzi Unicem family of companies. Globally, Buzzi Unicem SpA operates in 14 countries and employs almost 10,000 people. From 1909 to the late 70's, many technological advances in cement production had taken place. Wanting to take advangate of these improvements, the Alamo Cement Company initiated the construction of a modern plant located in the Northeast area of San Antonio.  The plant retained the name of Alamo Cement Company and became fully operational in 1981.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent from accredited institution is required
  • Technical/Trade School Degree or Certificate Preferred
  • Applicable Licenses Preferred but not required
  • Methods, equipment and materials used in electrical trade
  • General knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Principles of electronic theory as applied to electrical and electronic circuits
  • Theory of operation and use of Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) units and other computer based equipment
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Close attention to detail
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches
  • Install, including programming, and troubleshooting PLC based equipment
  • Maintain and clean and safe working environment by complying with safety policies, practices and procedures
  • Able to work different extended hours, holidays and/or overtime as required

  • Ability to work independently, without constant supervision

  • Able to work inside and outside in year-round weather conditions

  • In good physical condition, able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs., sit and stand for extended periods of time, kneel, climb ladders and walk on mixed terrain and in confined spaces

Responsibilities

The Electric Technician position is critical in performing skilled electrical work in the maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment, apparatus and fixtures used at cement plants.

In this position, you will be provided with plenty of opportunities to develop and enhance your skills, and build a career with Alamo Cement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspect, maintain repair and overhaul electromechanical and solid state electrical equipment, using a variety of electrical test equipment, meters, powered and non-powered tools and equipment.
  • Install new electrical and electronic equipment and electrical wiring according to the National Electrical Code and company electrical standards.
  • Maintain and repair electrical and electronic systems for Project facilities and equipment.
  • Perform high voltage switching and operate generators in support of operations.
  • Work safely and cooperatively with co-workers and the public.
  • Comply with and practice proper equipment clearance procedures.
  • Perform all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Responsible for station lockout/tagout procedures as mandated by company policy.
