Position Overview
The GIS Specialist I supports Celerity's project team by providing geospatial and data management expertise to client projects. This role is responsible for reviewing engineering documents, validating asset data, and using GIS tools to create, analyze, and maintain records and maps. Working closely with engineers and project managers, the GIS Specialist I helps ensure accurate documentation of utility assets, supports quality control processes, and contributes to client deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review engineering documents, drawings, and specifications to identify key information for analysis.
  • Verify data on underground and overhead electric system structures, including components, configurations, and supporting documentation of current asset conditions.
  • Perform searches and data validation using client platforms such as GIS, SAP, and document repositories.
  • Conduct GIS functions including creating, modifying, and updating records, maps, and diagrams; querying geodatabases; and extracting data for analysis.
  • Gather and research data from engineering as-built drawings and project documentation.
  • Perform quality control (QC) and review checks for asset inventories, engineering drawings, and related records.
  • Provide mark-ups and redlines on engineering documents in accordance with client and project specifications.
  • Maintain project tracking logs and coordination tools, including status updates, schedules, and challenges.
  • Produce project reports, maps, and updates as needed to support client and internal teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, or a related discipline; OR a GIS certificate plus relevant experience.
  • At least 1 year of work experience (GIS experience preferred but not required).
  • Demonstrated skill with Esri ArcGIS (ArcGIS Desktop 10.x/ArcGIS Pro) to develop, edit, and maintain data from engineering as-built drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Understanding of geographic data types, including land base, imagery, and utility infrastructure.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete complex assignments accurately.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to client sites.
  • Ability to work extended hours and/or overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time.
  • Ability to operate a computer, scanner, copier, and related office equipment on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and clients to exchange accurate project information.
  • Ability to move and/or carry boxes up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.

The salary range for this position is provided in good faith and is subject to variation based on geographic location, candidate experience, and market conditions. Final compensation will be determined after a comprehensive evaluation of the candidate's qualifications and alignment with the role.
