To thrive as a CDC Veterinary professional, you need a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, licensure, and a strong background in epidemiology, public health, and animal disease prevention. Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS), diagnostic testing tools, and public health data analysis software is typically required. Exceptional analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams are important soft skills in this role. CDC Veterinary professionals often work closely with epidemiologists, laboratory scientists, and local health departments during outbreak investigations. They contribute their expertise in animal health to help identify zoonotic disease sources, conduct field investigations, and analyze data related to animal populations. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as veterinary professionals must share findings, coordinate sampling efforts, and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to inform public health responses. This collaborative environment fosters learning and provides valuable experience for career advancement within public health.

What are CDC veterinarians?

CDC veterinarians are public health professionals at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who specialize in animal and human health. They work on controlling and preventing diseases that can spread between animals and people, known as zoonotic diseases. Their roles include conducting research, developing public health policies, and responding to disease outbreaks. CDC veterinarians often collaborate with other scientists and agencies to protect public health at the national and global levels.
