Project Description:
CDC releases sanitized regulatory diverse data sets to external healthcare stakeholders and make the data more accessible and optimized for use by external stakeholders. The release of the data encourage the external stakeholders to integrate CDC data into their ecosystem that will improve the delivery of healthcare which correlate with better health outcomes.
Job Summary:
The Data Engineer will play a key role in architecting and developing scalable, reliable data pipelines, proactively identifying and resolving platform issues, and supporting end-to-end data workflows. This includes collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data accuracy, availability, and performance-enabling efficient operations and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement solutions for data ingestion, storage, application performance management, dashboards, anomaly detection, and analytics, ensuring high performance and scalability.
  • Implement schema enforcement, data quality checks, and operational monitoring.
  • Support data needs, including building or modifying datasets used for analysis and modeling.
  • Participate in Tier 1/Tier 2 triage of platform issues, including job failures, data anomalies, and service reliability.
  • Address ad hoc engineering tickets, including enhancements, bug fixes, and tactical data requests.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers, analytics teams, and business stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate data delivery.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, test coverage, and documentation practices.
  • Support other project activities and DRT activities as directed by Project Manager and/or Portfolio Manager.
Required Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering activities (e.g., data pipelines, ETL).
  • Strong proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, NodeJS, Java, SQL etc.).
  • Strong expertise in system design, data architecture, automation and scalability.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation tools.
  • Working experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes), data engineering tools (Airflow, AWS EMR) and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines and production jobs.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Work Authorization & Clearance Requirement:
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Public Trust clearance. Due to contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (green card holders) to be eligible.

  • $90,000 - $120,000
