Their role is essential for minimizing claim denials and ensuring healthcare providers receive proper payments.
As a CBCS, your daily tasks usually involve reviewing patient records, assigning appropriate medical codes for diagnoses and procedures, and preparing healthcare claims for insurance reimbursement. You'll work closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure the accuracy of records and resolve any discrepancies in billing. Keeping up with updates in coding guidelines and compliance regulations is also a regular part of the role. These duties are essential to ensure both the financial health of the organization and the smooth processing of patient claims.
To thrive as a CBCS (Certified Billing and Coding Specialist), you need in-depth knowledge of medical coding systems, healthcare billing procedures, and compliance regulations, often supported by certification such as the CBCS credential from the NHA. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, coding software (like ICD-10 and CPT), and claims management platforms is typically required. Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with both healthcare providers and insurance companies are key soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate billing, timely reimbursements, and maintain regulatory compliance within healthcare organizations.

The Claims Solution Leader is a senior-level role responsible for the strategy, performance, and growth of CBCS's ancillary claim solutions portfolio. This leader oversees vendor partnerships, solution design, financial performance, and gotomarket execution. The role ensures that CBCS delivers highvalue, bestinclass solutions that improve claim outcomes and support organizational growth.
This position partners closely with claims operations, sales, marketing, finance, and executive leadership to embed solutions into workflows, strengthen client value, and drive adoption across the organization.
