Their duties often include cash forecasting, bank reconciliations, and preparing financial reports related to cash management. Cash controllers play a crucial role in maintaining liquidity and supporting the financial stability of a company.

What does a cash controller do?

A cash controller is responsible for tracking accounting systems and handling financial activities for a company. Their primary responsibilities are keeping records of incoming and outgoing cash, processing day-to-day transactions, maintaining records, producing periodic financial account reports, and enforcing the budget. A cash controller must stay up to date on current accounting software, have computer skills, and understand cash control systems and procedures. Qualifications to become a cash controller include a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.

Job description

Controller – Gonzales Development Co. (GDCO)

At GDCO, we’re not just building spaces — we’re shaping communities. From the vibrant 220-acre Meriam Park project to the upcoming Barber Yard, our work spans development, construction, property management, hospitality, and more. We create innovative, walkable environments that bring people together to live, work, and play. We’re seeking a Controller to lead our accounting team and oversee the financial operations across a diverse and growing portfolio of businesses and properties.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a 4-person accounting team, fostering collaboration and professional growth
  • Oversee financial reporting, cash flow management, and tax compliance for multiple entities, including construction, property management, restaurants, and other businesses
  • Partner with the CFO on strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and growth initiatives
  • Manage payroll, benefits, audits, and vendor/lease payments across all entities
  • Ensure accuracy in financial reporting, job costing, and regulatory filings
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and vendors

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred; MBA a plus)
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 in senior roles (Controller, Director of Finance, or CFO)
  • Experience overseeing multi-entity or multi-location operations
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, IRS, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards
  • Background in real estate, construction, hospitality, or family-owned businesses is a plus
  • Proven leadership skills, high integrity, and the ability to build trust across a team and organization

Why Join Us
This isn’t a typical Controller role. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the financial foundation of projects that are transforming Chico into a vibrant, connected community. You’ll work alongside a passionate team that values innovation, integrity, and teamwork, with opportunities to grow professionally as our projects evolve. If you’re motivated by challenge, excited by impact, and ready to make a difference, this role is for you.
