Job Title: Traveling SuperintendentJob Description

This Traveling Superintendent role oversees ground-up and tenant build-out construction projects for quick-serve restaurants and retail commercial sites. The superintendent manages all on-site daily activities, coordinates subcontractors and materials, and ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety standards. The position requires strong leadership, scheduling discipline, and comfort working in fast-paced, short-duration project cycles while traveling regionally and using tablet-based field reporting tools.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all daily construction activities on-site for ground-up and tenant build-out projects.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to drive overall project progress and ensure milestones are met.
  • Plan and manage the scheduling of subcontractors, utilities, inspections, equipment, and material deliveries.
  • Work with subcontractors to complete projects within the established budget and time frame.
  • Produce and maintain detailed two-week look-ahead schedules, coordinating trades, materials, and inspections.
  • Assess the work performed by subcontractors and crews, identifying issues and making corrections as needed.
  • Create thorough, accurate daily field log reports using FieldLens and Procore on a Microsoft Surface Pro.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe work environment in accordance with OSHA standards and site safety protocols.
  • Provide on-site construction leadership, directing field operations and maintaining active oversight of the jobsite.
  • Represent the general contractor professionally to owners, clients, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Schedule and coordinate utilities and required inspections to keep the project on track.
  • Rely on experience and sound judgment to plan, sequence, and accomplish project goals.
  • Assist with finish work requiring carpentry skills, including door hanging, caulking, décor installation, and trim installation, as needed.
  • Transition effectively between multiple short-duration projects throughout the year while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication with the Project Manager and internal teams regarding project status and site conditions.
  • Work some Saturdays when necessary to keep projects on schedule and support crews on-site.
  • Report to the Division Manager with updates on progress, issues, and resource needs.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ground-up construction experience, with successful completion of at least three ground-up projects.
  • Experience with site work and civil coordination on commercial construction projects.
  • Background in quick-serve restaurant construction, retail construction, or commercial construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents accurately.
  • Strong subcontractor management skills, including scheduling, coordination, and performance oversight.
  • Regional home base near Indiana, ideally within IN, IL, or MO, with willingness to travel as a regional traveler.
  • Willingness to travel for projects typically lasting around three months, with flexibility to return home on weekends, every other weekend, or travel with a trailer.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced project environments with 60–90 day or approximately 3–4 month project cycles.
  • Demonstrated scheduling and planning discipline, including producing two-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Ability to coordinate subcontractors, materials, and inspections to maintain project momentum.
  • Ability to pass a Background check, social media screen, and drug screen.
  • Construction leadership experience with at least 2+ years as a Superintendent preferred, or 3–4+ years as a Foreman or lead trade with full project lifecycle exposure and ability to run site operations.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, with the ability to represent the general contractor to owners, clients, and inspectors.
  • Comfort with technology and ability to perform field reporting on a tablet (Microsoft Surface Pro), use email, and operate basic software.
  • Physical ability to maintain active on-site mobility, including walking the site and providing hands-on oversight rather than working solely from a trailer.
  • Willingness to work some Saturdays as needed to support project schedules and on-site crews.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • OSHA 30 certification is highly desirable.
  • Carpentry Background with hands-on experience in finish work such as doors, trim, décor, and caulking.
  • Experience transitioning between multiple short-duration projects within a year.
  • Procore experience for project and field management is a strong plus.
  • Prior use of FieldLens and familiarity with its reporting workflows.
  • Experience in quick-serve restaurant construction environments is an advantage.
  • Ability to self-manage travel logistics and adapt to varying project locations.
Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, with the superintendent working on-site five days a week and being willing to work Saturdays when crews are present to keep the schedule on track. Projects are typically fast-paced, short-duration commercial builds, often ground-up followed by tenant build-outs for quick-serve restaurant and retail facilities. The superintendent uses a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet for daily reporting in FieldLens and Procore, and a company-provided cellphone for communication. Travel is a regular part of the job, with most projects located in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri, and the ability to return home on weekends as project schedules and locations allow. Lodging is arranged via Airbnb or hotels and paid with a company credit card, with reimbursement available for personal RV or camper lodging. Mileage is compensated from mobilization to demobilization, and a per diem is provided while on the road. All holidays are paid, and downtime between jobs is also paid. The work environment is active and hands-on, requiring regular walking and on-site oversight in typical commercial construction conditions, with adherence to OSHA safety standards. Dress is standard construction site attire appropriate for field work and safety compliance.
