Summary:
The Transport Paramedic may function as lead caregiver in a two-person team (medic/medic composition) and will be the third team member of a critical care team (RN/RT/Medic). The Paramedic will function independently and makes complex and critical judgements during the transport of patients of all ages who have been classified as BLS and/or ALS 1-2 category. As a member of the critical care team, the Transport Paramedic will assist the Transport RN and RT with patient care while utilizing their advanced skills and training. The paramedic will have an active role in managing the customer service experience during the transport of patient and family members.

Responsibilities:
* Makes critical clinical judgments without direct supervision on the transport team and with Behavioral Health Vehicle transports. Remains compliant with paramedic transport protocols and orders given from medical direction
* Performs transport of patients (including driving of transport vehicle) to procedures, tests performed off hospital campus and multiple treatment facilities upon discharge; responds quickly to patient and family needs while collaborating with the transport RN and RT on a treatment plan during transports
* Performs basic and advance skills when deemed appropriate while utilizing the Transport Paramedic protocols.
* Performs all BLS and advanced skills during patient care including, but not limited to: initiation of PIV catheters; priming IV fluids (excluding blood products); naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning; insertion of NG/OG tubes and insertion and maintaining of Endotracheal Tube
* Assists in emergency situations by initiating BLS and ALS life saving skills, assisting with chest compressions, and/or participating as a vital member of the transport team.
* Transports behavioral health patients via the Behavioral Health Vehicle program to behavioral health facilities with a medic/medic team
* Performs documentation of patient care in a computerized data base program as specified by department and hospital guidelines.
* Assists critical care RN and RT with the stabilization and transport of critically ill and injured neonatal and pediatric patients.
* Applies family and patient centered care to all job aspects and support family during air transports and all phases of care
* Assists and performs independently with regulatory readiness, inventory of equipment on ambulance and store rooms, and daily checks of the contents and mechanical function of the ambulance.
* Participates in monthly meetings, committees, and maintains all required training.
* Assists in educational activities within Transport Services including: new employee orientation, in-service education, both internal and external, as specified by outreach coordinator and education coordinator; participate in department committees.
* Assists in the training and development of new staff to the department. Provides objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires.

WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 3 years job related experience as a paramedic Req
* At least 2 years licensed Ambulance Operator experience Req
* At least 1 year experience in acute care / emergency setting Req
* At least 1 year pediatric experience Pref
EDUCATION
* High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Req
* Completion of a paramedic program with licensure Req
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by policy CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Req
* Either one of: Texas EMT-P or Texas LP Upon Hire Req
* City of Dallas Ambulance Permit (Ambulance and Car for Hire to operate the BH Vehicle) 60 Days, Req
* City of Dallas Transportation for Hire (to operate BH Vehicle) 90 Days Req
* PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) 180 Days Req
* Any one of: BTLS, ITLS, TNCC, PHTLS, or TPATC (Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support, Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course) certification 180 Days Req
* ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification 180 Days Req
* NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) 180 Days Req
* C-NPT (Certification in Neonatal Pediatric Transport) (Staff hired prior to 8/1/2023 will need to be certified by 7/31/2026) New Hires: must obtain within 2 years from the date of hire Req
