As a Captioning Assistant, your daily responsibilities include listening to audio or live events and accurately transcribing spoken content into written captions using specialized software. You may also be asked to review, edit, and synchronize captions to ensure they match audio timing and meet quality guidelines. Collaboration with team members, such as lead captioners or project managers, is common to ensure timely project completion and adherence to client requirements. Staying adaptable in handling multiple projects and meeting strict deadlines is a key part of the job. This role is vital in making audio and video content accessible to wider audiences, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
A Captioning Assistant is responsible for providing real-time captions for telephone conversations to help individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. They listen to live conversations and use voice recognition software or typing to generate accurate captions. This role requires good listening skills, strong typing or speech-to-text abilities, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Captioning Assistants do not engage in the conversation but ensure clear and accurate captions for the users.
