Senior IT Project Office Manager

Position Summary

Tennant is looking for a thought and execution leader to oversee its IT PMO.

The role of the Project Office Manager is to help define what we do and how we do it by establishing, implementing, developing, and controlling best practices for project management throughout the IT organization. This includes defining and documenting all policies and processes for project lifecycles to deliver projects on plan and within budget.

In this position, you will provide oversight and ensure adherence to established best practices by collaborating with Business Relationship Managers and the Enterprise Process Board in the intake of new project requests and the handoff of approved projects to project managers, overseeing gate reviews, evaluating go-live preparedness and maintaining elevated levels of customer-centered support during the hypercare period.

Demand and capacity management is a critical function, forecasting and tracking the availability of people throughout the project life cycle, with responsibilities spanning projects and delivery teams globally. Monthly and annual portfolio reporting will be required, based on information collected from project teams, along with oversight of project closures and follow-up reporting.

Management of high-risk, high-visibility projects may be required from time to time.

Additionally, this leader will play an active role in the ERP Modernization program, which will move our organization from our current ERP platforms to SAP’s S/4HANA. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior management to ensure IT project scope, goals, and deliverables are aligned with business objectives.
  • Establish clear criteria for project success and share them with all stakeholders throughout each stage of the project.
  • Clearly communicate and manage expectations among project managers, owners, sponsors, team members, and other relevant parties.
  • Set guidelines for how often project managers submit status reports, review findings, and address potential issues or risks promptly.
  • Project future resource needs and report on current resource utilization accurately.
  • Deliver precise updates on project progress, status, risks, and ongoing challenges.
  • Participate in steering committee and PMO meetings, advocating for PMO and project management interests.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date project and portfolio reports.
  • Oversee project and portfolio processes to maximize delivery of prioritized projects.
  • Create and refine best practices, methods, and tools for planning, execution, management, milestone tracking, communication, and KPIs.
  • Promote understanding of project management standards and methodologies.
  • Lead project reviews and offer actionable recommendations to highlight both successful and problematic areas.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and motivation to project team leads.
  • Coordinate and align with the Global IT Team to deliver IT services and execute projects smoothly.

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of direct work experience in an IT project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution. 
  • Strong familiarity with project management software.
  • Experience in developing and deploying project best practices, policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Experience with ERP solutions and implementations (SAP experience preferred.)
  • Self-starter, able to operate independently and in changing environments. 
  • Demonstrated experience in effective Change Management.
  • Experience managing others directly and/or indirectly through mentoring, coaching and persuasion.

  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to research project and portfolio management issues and products as required.

  • Ability to facilitate relations between business groups and technology departments.

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $122,600- $189,700

Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Tennant Sales and Service Co. reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity. Total Compensation = Base Salary + Benefits
