Description
The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a part-time Instructor of English who can provide in-person instruction on VGCC's instruction on the Franklin Campus located in Louisburg.
Under the supervision of the Department Chair and Academic Dean, part-time instructors are responsible for teaching course content as well as preparing and keeping appropriate records and syllabi for all assigned courses. Each instructor will provide effective instruction in all classes by implementing active learning strategies and focusing on student learning outcomes. At all times, instructional personnel should be aware of the need to continue the personal and professional growth necessary to perform their duties.
Schedule:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Salary Range: VGCC considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training and key skills; and internal peer equity in offer calculations.

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair regarding course assignments each semester.
  • Create and maintain course documents such as syllabi, student learning outcomes, tests, etc. The course syllabi must be submitted for review to the Department Chair each semester.
  • Conduct class according to established meeting patterns and notify the Department Chair of any changes.
  • Update courses within the learning management system (LMS) (i.e. Moodle/Canvas) for specific type of course design (enhanced, hybrid, online) prior to start of semester.
  • Communicate with students via school email and LMS messaging as appropriate for the course design (enhanced, hybrid, or online).
  • Provide feedback to students regarding course progression.
  • Record attendance and grades via MyVGCC in a timely fashion and in accordance with semester deadlines.
  • Inform Department Chair of any student issues (academic, attendance, behavior, cheating, and plagiarism) as soon as possible.
  • Assess student learning outcomes and demonstrate the use of the results to make improvements to course/program.
  • Maintain suitable class records that show student attendance hours, academic progress, student grading systems, etc.
  • Obtain and maintain certification in online delivery systems
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technology required by academic program area and in administrative processes as required by the college.
  • Experiment with new, innovative teaching techniques.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in English or an earned Master's degree in another field with 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline of English.
  • Degrees and hours must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful teaching experience in a community/technical college or similar post-secondary institution.
  • Teaching experience with the Moodle LMS.

Physical Demands
  • This position requires in person instruction on the Franklin Campus located in Louisburg each week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
